Many congratulations to our sponsored professional triathlete Tom Bishop who put in sterling performance at the World Triathlon Series in Leeds to finish fifth just behind fellow teammate Adam Bowden. Following on from his podium finish in Abu Dhabi, Tom’s result in Leeds means he now sits in 4th in the ITU world triathlon series rankings, just 200 points behind Javier Gomez.
With Alistair and Jonny Brownlee coming first and second respectively the GB athletes made triathlon history, becoming the first team ever to claim four out of the top five places at a WTS race.
“I thoroughly enjoyed racing in front of the home crowd,” Tom told us. “It definitely inspired me to push on when it got tough, especially during the run when the crowds were so loud.”
The next WTS takes place in Hamburg on the 15th July. With only one Brownlee racing (Jonny), and Gomez’ attendance not 100% confirmed, Tom will be looking to get back on the podium and gain more points in the world rankings.
“I’m really looking forward to Hamburg," Tom said. "It’s the main selection race for the Commonwealths next year on the Gold Coast so I will need to achieve top five and first Brit to automatically qualify for the team – fingers crossed!”
We also must say congratulations to Tom's twin brother David, who also came fifth on Sunday at the ETU European Championships - spooky hey! Our trusty mechanic finished with a time of 1:51:51 and one of the three Brits in the top five. Best of luck to both of the brothers in their next races and matching bike works-sponsored suits!
